The simple act of listening can enhance your focus, improve your relationships and even better your professional life. The city’s Conflict Resolution Center is offering a four-week workshop on The Art of Listening.
The course will consist of four Tuesday evening sessions – Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26, 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Newport Way Library, 14250 SE Newport Way. Learning is cumulative, so attending all sessions is advised.
Through interactive exercises, participants will become aware of any unhelpful listening habits, learn ways to calm their busy brains when they are angry or confused, practice forming useful questions and become more confident when faced with a difficult conversation. The participants will also learn how to be more artful, peaceful and attentive listeners, and have the experience of being truly listened to.
The workshop will be facilitated by Marcia McReynolds, co-manager of the Dispute Resolution Center. The Art of Listening was a popular offering in 2018.
“This class can be invaluable to many people, good to spread the ideas one step at a time, a good refresher for anyone,” wrote one person in a post-class evaluation.
Registration is highly recommended as previous classes have been full and wait-listed. To get more information and/or to register contact ndaniels@bellevuewa.gov or call 425-452-5288.
