Applications due by Nov. 8
The City of Bellevue has issued a call for an artist to design a creative pavement treatment celebrating LGBTQ+ pride for a downtown intersection. Artists living in King, Kitsap, Pierce and Snohomish counties can apply, and applications are due by Wednesday, Nov. 8.
The City Council vision states, “Bellevue welcomes the world. Our diversity is our strength.” This project celebrates the diversity that makes the Bellevue community strong.
The artist’s role is to propose a creative and inclusive artistic design for a crosswalk or intersection in downtown Bellevue that celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. The artist will be expected to conduct community outreach to inform their design and deliver at least one draft before finalizing the design.
The city will review draft designs for traffic safety concerns and will install the design with a thermoplastic-type material.
Applicants must summarize their professional experience and submit examples of their work. They will be asked to describe their connection to and involvement with the LGBTQ+ community. The artist will be selected based on artistic merit, mural or large-scale flat work experience and compelling examples of relevant artworks.
