Bomb cyclone storm impacts

A bomb cyclone windstorm lashed Bellevue the night of Tuesday, Nov. 19, bringing down trees throughout the city and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. Most city facilities have power and many are available to warm up and charge devices during business hours. The mayor proclaimed a civil emergency in the city due to the storm's extensive damage. Beware of Utility Scams During Emergencies

Bellevue Utilities will typically contact you in advance if they need to access your home for repairs or inspections. If you are unsure, call Bellevue Utilities at 425-452-6932 to confirm if someone is supposed to be at your home.

Yard Debris Collection after Wind Storm

Now through Friday, Dec. 6, Republic Services will collect up to 192 gallons (six 32-gallon units) of extra yard debris in bins, bags and bundles during your regular collection day at no additional cost. King County residents can drop off tree limbs, and other woody debris without paying the standard yard waste fee at the Bow Lake, Cedar Falls, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline, and Vashon facilities. The City of Bellevue is offering four free workshops where participants can learn how to choose or even make cleaners that are less toxic and better for the environment.

Products such as baking soda, vinegar and Castile liquid soap can be mixed to create safe, inexpensive cleaners for use around the home.

Participants will receive a green cleaning kit and a certificate for completing the class, 7-8 p.m., on the following dates:

October 22 at Newport Way Library;
October 27 at North Bellevue Community Center;
November 6 at City Hall; and
November 10 at Highland Community Center.

Spaces are limited to 20 people per workshop, and registration is required. Contact recycle@bellevuewa.gov or call 425-452-6932 to register.
