The popular Seattle Latino Film Festival (SLFF) celebrates the art and entertainment of Latin American cinema, and for the first time, the city is partnering to bring the popular festival to Bellevue and the Eastside, through Bellevue Television and a first-ever screening in Bellevue.
On Monday, Oct. 7, Bellevue Television (BTV Comcast channel 21) will present "74 Square Meters," a film that profiles marginalized families from Chile who are chosen to participate in a social experiment that places them into a middle-class neighborhood where two worlds collide.
On Friday, Oct. 11, the Bellevue Youth Theatre will host showings of two additional films:
- "End of the World" (Um fim do Mundo) at 6 p.m. - The Northwest premiere of a modern-day cinema verite-style film. The story portrays the daily lives of young people living in Lisbon whose stories unfold in unpredictable fashion, with improvisations and open-ended storytelling creating authenticity.
- "The Battle" (La Batalla| 5 de Mayo) at 7:20 p.m. - An epic and emotional history of the events leading up to the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, when the small, poorly equipped Mexican army stunned its French occupiers with a decisive victory. The film brings to life the dramas of politicians, generals and soldiers on the ground, as well as their wives waiting back at home. Utilizing hundreds of extras, this is a grand, classical war film rarely seen from Latin America.
