Starting Monday, April 6, Puget Sound Energy will have lane closures on 120th Avenue Northeast near Northeast Fourth Street (between Best Buy and Home Depot) from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. The work will take seven to ten working days to relocate the gas line beneath the roadway.
On Monday, April 13, the city will begin construction to extend Northeast Fourth Street from 116th Avenue to 124th Avenue. Typical work hours for this project will be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Some work may occur on Friday between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. or Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. There will also be times when construction take place at night between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
When the extension is done, Northeast Fourth Street will be a five-lane arterial with two travel lanes in each direction and a center-turn lane where needed. Bike lanes and sidewalks will be on both sides, and there will be a new traffic signal at the Northeast Fourth and 120th Avenue intersection.
When the extended street opens to traffic in the fall, it will relieve congestion at nearby intersections, improve travel times and provide alternatives for buses, cars, freight, pedestrians and bicyclists.
