With a new bridge on Lakemont Boulevard nearly complete, the key South Bellevue arterial is expected to reopen the week of June 10. The street has been closed to drivers since last fall, when the city declared an emergency due to a failed culvert under the road that put the street at risk of collapsing.

“We appreciate the community’s understanding and patience as we completed this critical piece of infrastructure, ensuring the stability of the roadway and safety to the public,” said Lucy Liu, director of Bellevue Utilities. “Closing a well-traveled road is never ideal, and we understand the impact this has had on the community.”

The city invites South Bellevue community members to a Community Walk/Bike Across the Bridge event Monday, June 10, 1:30-2:30 p.m. Hear from members of the City Council, Environmental Services Commission, city staff and project partners about the project and an upcoming phase 2 to restore the channel at the location of the failed culvert. The event will also be live streamed on Bellevue TV YouTube.

The latest project updates and event details are at Lakemont Boulevard Culvert.
