    Crews repairing water main

City shares updated steps on clearing discolored water

    UPDATE – 8 p.m., 8/10/20

Crews have completed repairs to the water main and Lake Hills Blvd. is now open. Crews are currently flushing the water main near the site of the break to help clear the disturbed pipe sediment causing discolored water in some nearby homes. We estimate this will take 2-3 hours.

Crews are also performing targeted flushing in specific affected areas to help clear the discolored water. For customers experiencing this issue, please follow these updated steps:

    • Flush with cold water from a bathtub or outside spigot for approximately 15 minutes
    • If the water is still slightly discolored or cloudy, but appears to be clearing, continue flushing for another 15 minutes or until it runs clear
    • If the water remains discolored with no improvement, contact our 24-hour standby staff to report the issue for follow up. (Please note: after hours, you will be connected with the 24-hour answering service, who will notify standby staff to call you back.)

Thank you for your patience – we’re working as fast as we can to resolve this issue for everyone.

    Original Notice – 5 p.m., 8/10/20
Crews are still on site repairing a break in a water main that occurred earlier today on Lake Hills Blvd. between 151st Avenue Southeast and 154th Avenue Southeast. Crews have isolated the leak and anticipate water service will be restored by 8 p.m. this evening. A road closure between 151st  Avenue Southeast and 154th Avenue Southeast (as shown on map) will remain in effect during repairs.

Some customers served by the water main may be experiencing discolored water. The water is safe to use – the discoloration is the result of stirred-up pipe sediment and is not harmful. However, it is recommended to wait for the discoloration to clear before drinking or doing laundry.

To clear the discoloration, flush by running cold water from a bathtub or outside spigot for several minutes. If the water still appears discolored after flushing, please contact the Utilities 24-hour line at 425-452-7840.

We apologize for the inconvenience to customers and are working as quickly and safely as possible to complete repairs. We will provide updates on the repair status when we have more information.
