No Cost, Just Care: Program connects homeowners with volunteers
Homeowners struggling with exterior maintenance needs due to physical or financial hardship can now apply to receive assistance through Jubilee in the Community. The program, a long-standing partnership between the City of Bellevue and local nonprofit Jubilee REACH, coordinates volunteers who help homeowners get the outdoor home maintenance support they need.
Applications to use the program are due by June 30 and can be completed online in English, español, 简体中文, 繁體中文,日本語, 한국어, Pусский or Tiếng Việt. Paper applications are also available at City Hall and can be returned by mail or in person. The yardwork will be completed (add a timeframe for the work to be done.)
Ideal for seniors and those facing economic or life challenges, the services Jubilee in the Community provides can significantly improve the lives of those who participate.
“In short, a kind of miracle visited me this summer,” said a participant from last year’s program. “I’m barely able to put words to it, other than to say I’m deeply grateful, and I’ll never think of the word ‘neighborhood’ in the same way again.”
To qualify, applicants must own and occupy their home in Bellevue and face economic or life challenges. While program services are free, some projects may require homeowners to assist with minimal material costs.
Examples of assistance include:
- Yard clean ups
- Bark and gravel spreading
- Power washing and blowing
- Fence, gate, shed or deck repair and painting
