Residents have always wanted to know about city capital projects in their neighborhoods. Now, with an interactive, online map launched by the city today, they can quickly see where all of the projects are and learn the details of each one from popup screens.
"This application provides a fast and easy way for citizens to pinpoint projects around the city if they would like more information about a particular project," said Wendy Hairfield, Utilities community relations specialist. "It's also interesting to see multiple project locations at a glance." A video shows how to access the map from a mobile device or desktop computer.
The capital projects map replaces one that required users to navigate to a database every time they wanted to learn about a project. Projects are color-coded, indicating whether they are in design, under construction or at another stage.
The city is pursuing dozens of capital projects, from sewer repairs and sidewalks to a new Bellevue Youth Theatre and a new park in Bridle Trails. The City Council approved these projects as part of the 2013-2019 Capital Investment Program.
With just one click on the new map, you can see a project's:
- name,
- description,
- department,
- estimated schedule,
- estimated cost, and
- project manager contact information.
Many projects also provide direct links to related web pages on the city's website. The map is mobile- and tablet-friendly.
"We are very excited about this new map tool,†said Ron Kessack, assistant director with Transportation. "Projects can be complicated. This tool will help cut out the guesswork when you want to know more about projects happening in your neighborhood."
