Car owners can get software March 15, 16 and 17
Hyundai, in partnership with the Bellevue Police Department and other regional law enforcement agencies, will offer free anti-theft software upgrades and ignition protectors at installation events in Bellevue, Tacoma and Edmonds March 15-17. People who own or lease Hyundais from model years 2011-2022 are eligible.
The Bellevue event will be at Factoria Mall, by Nordstrom Rack, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a tent and customer lounge. No appointment is necessary. Installations take about 20 minutes.
Specially trained technicians will install the software upgrade. For vehicles that cannot accommodate the new software, the technicians will install an ignition protector device. All Hyundai owners who attend will receive a complimentary steering wheel lock.
For more than a year, Hyundais made in those years have been targets for theft popularized on social media. The installation events are part of a larger effort to reduce the number of thefts of these vehicles throughout Puget Sound.
