Bomb cyclone storm impacts

A bomb cyclone windstorm lashed Bellevue the night of Tuesday, Nov. 19, bringing down trees throughout the city and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. Most city facilities have power but some are on modified hours or closed due to power outages. Damages from the storm continue to impact Bellevue, prompting the mayor to proclaim a civil emergency in the city. Updates about the city's response will be posted at Bomb Cyclone Storm.

The city is sponsoring a children’s holiday gift card drive through Nov. 30 for Bellevue families in need of additional support, with Bellevue Parks & Community Services and the Bellevue Firefighters Community Support Foundation (BFCSF) collecting online donations at BFCSF.org/toy-drive-donate.

The Firefighters Foundation will use the donations to purchase gift cards, and the Bellevue School District will distribute the cards to eligible students.

Originating over two decades ago, the physical food and toy drive morphed into a gift card drive last year during the pandemic. Historically, thousands of children have been served annually during the event. Like last year, boxes will not be available at fire stations for gifts. Please donate online.
