Residents will have an opportunity to learn about the need for more affordable housing on the Eastside and ways the city can try to address the issue at a forum on June 23, 5:30-8 p.m., in City Hall (450 110th Ave. NE).
The City Council has asked staff to develop a strategy for the city to address a growing shortage of affordable housing in the area. Development of the strategy and an action plan are also part of the council's 2016-17 priorities, which were adopted in April. This month's forum (flyer with details) is part of the outreach for the effort.
A presentation at 6 p.m. will feature a panel of representatives from the human service provider community, the business community, the Bellevue School District and both the non- and for-profit development communities. The panelists will address the need for affordable housing in Bellevue and challenges to providing it, and field questions about affordable housing from the audience.
In addition, attendees will have opportunities to visit with local human service providers; share their thoughts about, and experiences with, affordable housing at a video booth; and comment on the types of actions that the council may consider for creating affordable housing.
