For its commitment to continuous improvement and industry-leading use of electric vehicles, the City of Bellevue’s vehicle fleet has been ranked #22 in North America by the National Association of Fleet Administrators on its annual list of the top 100 fleets. Bellevue ranked higher than any other organization in Washington state that made the list.
The 100 Best Fleets in the Americas program recognizes high-performing public and commercial fleet operations. These programs identify and encourage increasing levels of performance improvement and innovation within the fleet industry.
“This award validates Bellevue’s investments in environmental responsibility and helps solidify our reputation as a high-performance organization,” said City Manager Diane Carlson. “I want to recognize the teams who work hard every day to ensure we are delivering exceptional service in our fleet operations – they are the reason for this achievement.”
The ranking highlights Bellevue’s proactive efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by transitioning to electric vehicles and implementing anti-idle strategies.
Bellevue’s Fleet and Communications division, part of the city’s Finance & Asset Management department, manages nearly 1,000 vehicles, including fire engines, utility trucks, police SUVs, and smaller cars. The city is working on installing more charging stations to support the shift to electric vehicles. By 2030, the city aims to convert half of its light-duty fleet to electric, and by 2040, it plans for all light-duty vehicles to be electric.
The award also recognized the city’s commitment to long-term financial sustainability in its fleet management and concerted efforts to promote staff development and retention. More information about Bellevue’s fleet operations can be found at Fleet and Communications.
