The Bellevue Fire Department, in support of Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 4-10), will host its annual open house on Saturday, Oct. 3, with tours and opportunities to learn CPR, discharge a fire extinguisher and try on bunker gear at all nine stations.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors can have free cookies and other refreshments, and ask firefighters questions. Children ages 7 to 15 can enter a drawing to ride to school in a fire engine. Fill out the form, then bring it to the open house to enter the drawing.
Special events are planned at the following fire stations:
- Stove top fire display (Stations 1, 2, 3, 8 and 9): View how to properly extinguish a kitchen fire during a live demonstration involving real fuel and fire.
- Child safety trailer (Station 3): Walk through a trailer home, learn about basic home safety and see if you can navigate your way out when it fills up with smoke. (Don't worry, the smoke machines use peanut oil and generate non-toxic smoke.)
