Firefighters from fire companies around the region will hoist heavy hoses up a high tower and other feats at the Market Place @ Factoria on Saturday, July 11, and Sunday, July 12, for Washington's 2015 Firefighter Combat Challenge.
The Bellevue Fire Department, in conjunction with Sunbelt Rentals and On Target Sports, is hosting the event, noon-3 p.m., both days. Bellevue's team will compete against teams from neighboring cities as well from elsewhere in the region, including Alaska and British Columbia.
The Combat Challenge, as seen on ESPN Sports and recently on the "Biggest Loser," simulates essential skills of firefighting. Scott Safety brings the obstacle course to locations around the country. At Factoria, 4055 Factoria Square Mall SE, it will be in the Northwest parking area.
Children can compete in a Kids Firefighter Challenge with a scaled-down version of the obstacle course.
On Saturday, there will be individual and team competitions. On Sunday, there will be relay and tandem competitions. There will be an opening ceremony with colors presentation from the Bellevue Fire Department Honor Guard.
