A fire early Sunday morning caused more than $150,000 worth of damage to a home in the Eastgate area. The house was occupied and no one was injured.
At approximately 12:50 a.m., on Sunday, June 22, the homeowner called 911. First units arrived at the home, on the 15900 block of Southeast 42nd Place, within three minutes, and found the rear portion of the home and porch involved in flames, which extended into the attic space.
Initial crews began an offensive interior while additional crews performed search and rescue. Crews discovered fire had extended into the attic space which was quickly extinguished. Fire declared under control with 27 minutes from time of arrival of first engine company on the scene.
Fire companies from Bellevue, Mercer Island, Kirkland and Eastside Fire and Rescue assisted in suppression operations. Bellevue Police assisted with traffic control and scene security.
Investigators declared that the fire had accidently started along an exterior wall and extended into the attic space. There were working smoke detectors in the home.
