A fire early Wednesday morning destroyed a home in the Lake Hills area. The family living in the house got out when the fire started, and no one was injured.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., on Wednesday, July 9, a neighbor reported that the home on the 600 block of 155th Avenue Southeast was fully involved in fire. Bellevue Police had made contact with the family members at a neighbor's home and confirmed everyone had made it out of the home uninjured.
First units arrived within three minutes and found fire from every side of the home and the garage. The fire had also extended into the attic space.
Initial crews began a defensive operation, containing the fire while protecting adjacent homes and structures. There was minor superficial damage to the exterior wall of home to the south of structure fire. As additional crews arrived, the fire was battled from each side and extinguished within 30 minutes from the time the first ladder company had arrived.
Fire companies from Bellevue, Mercer Island and Redmond assisted in suppression operations. Bellevue Police assisted with traffic control and scene security.
Investigators are working to determine the source and cause of fire. American Red Cross is assisting the family members with temporary housing and support.
The owners stated that smoke detectors with the home had not operated. This serves as a great reminder to please replace your smoke detector batteries when we change our clocks and to test each of them monthly. Smoke detectors save lives!
