Bomb cyclone storm impacts

A bomb cyclone windstorm lashed Bellevue the night of Tuesday, Nov. 19, bringing down trees throughout the city and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. Most city facilities have power and many are available to warm up and charge devices during business hours. The mayor proclaimed a civil emergency in the city due to the storm's extensive damage. Beware of Utility Scams During Emergencies

Bellevue Utilities will typically contact you in advance if they need to access your home for repairs or inspections. If you are unsure, call Bellevue Utilities at 425-452-6932 to confirm if someone is supposed to be at your home.

Yard Debris Collection after Wind Storm

Now through Friday, Dec. 6, Republic Services will collect up to 192 gallons (six 32-gallon units) of extra yard debris in bins, bags and bundles during your regular collection day at no additional cost. King County residents can drop off tree limbs, and other woody debris without paying the standard yard waste fee at the Bow Lake, Cedar Falls, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline, and Vashon facilities. The City of Bellevue's fall special recycling collection event will be Saturday, October 18, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at Crossroads Bible Church, 15815 SE 37th St.

After years at Bellevue Presbyterian Church in Northwest Bellevue, the event is at a new location, but residents will still have a convenient opportunity to get rid of unwanted televisions, computers, electronic equipment, appliances, scrap metal, auto batteries, porcelain sinks and toilets, tires, mattresses, Styrofoam blocks, packing peanuts and other items. Paper shredding will be offered at this event.

There will be a charge for some items. Hazardous waste such as paint, pesticides, motor oil and antifreeze will NOT be accepted.

Each Bellevue household was sent a flyer with details of what is and isn't accepted.
