The city has begun work on a storm drain replacement project to reduce flooding on Factoria Boulevard that will protect businesses and streets in the area from future flood impacts. Drivers should brace for delays over the next five months as the construction work moves into its next phases.

Intermittent lane closures have been in place since January, but starting as soon as Sunday, Feb. 25, Factoria Boulevard will be reduced to three lanes of travel with two southbound lanes and one northbound lane.

“It is never an ideal time to do construction on a well-traveled arterial,” said Lucy Liu, director of Bellevue Utilities. “We are exploring all possible mitigation measures to help lessen the traffic impact; however, we want the community to be aware that this construction will cause traffic delays and to prepare ahead of time to adjust travel times, if possible.”

The full-time lane closures are expected to continue through July. Intermittent lane closures will then follow through the end of the project, estimated in December.

Bus routes: The two King County Metro bus stops in the area will be temporarily relocated. The city will coordinate with Metro to minimize impacts to transit service and alert riders of the new temporary bus stop locations.

Business access: Access to the businesses on both sides of Factoria Boulevard will be maintained throughout project construction. The city will provide signage to highlight business access locations.

Learn more about this project: Project team members will be at Factoria Village near the Starbucks by QFC to answer questions and provide updated project information at the following times:

  • Wednesday, Feb. 21, 8 a.m.-noon
  • Monday, Feb. 26, 2-6 p.m.
