An outdoor cultural festival celebrating the arts and culture of India will be held this weekend at Bellevue Downtown Park.
"Flavors of India," hosted by Vedic Cultural Center with support from Bellevue Parks & Community Services, takes place from noon to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and from 1:30 to 7 p.m. on Sunday. Downtown Park is located at 10201 NE Fourth St.
The event will include a variety of family entertainment:
- Stage performances;
- A 20-foot model of the River Ganges;
- Delicious, free Indian food samples;
- Inflatables for children; and
- Displays about Indian culture
The entertainment will feature a form of classical Indian dance called Kathak, and multi-percussion performances. A highlight of the Saturday show, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., will be performances by world-renowned South Korean dancer Jin Won and percussion by Kaumil Shah, Mike Lukshis and Vincent Pierce. A recent New York Times review described the "transformative effect" of the live music and Won's dancing.
More information and a complete entertainment schedule is available on the "Flavors of India" web page.
