On Tuesday, Aug. 29, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Sound Transit will test the emergency ventilation system in the downtown light rail tunnel in Bellevue. The 30-minute demonstration involves stationing a light rail vehicle in the tunnel and releasing theatrical fog.
Depending on environmental conditions, the fog could reach Northeast Sixth Street or Main Street at 112th Avenue before crews activate the fans. The fog is expected to dilute and disappear quickly when the tunnel fans are on, as it consists primarily of water vapor. It is not expected to pose a health or safety risk.
Expect to see more light rail testing in Bellevue following Sound Transit’s announcement for a phased opening of East Link, beginning with service between South Bellevue and Redmond Technology stations in spring 2024, with a full launch expected in 2025.
