Bellevue Parks & Community Services will host an open house Thursday, March 26, at City Hall to present plans to complete the circular promenade and canal at Downtown Park and provide for a new park entry at 102nd Avenue Northeast. The event will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. on the first-floor concourse.
Downtown Park has become one of the most recognizable and well-loved places in Bellevue, and it plays a pivotal role in making downtown Bellevue an appealing place to live, work and play.
Plans for the project date back to 1984 when the City Council adopted the design for Downtown Park. Since then, the city has worked to fulfill the vision of that plan, completing two major construction phases.
However, the final phase remains unfinished, completing the distinctive circular promenade and entry at 102nd Avenue Northeast and relocating the existing parking to an expanded parking lot off of 100th Avenue Northeast. In 2008, Bellevue voters passed the Parks & Natural Areas Levy that included funding for this project.
Additionally, the playground will be expanded through a partnership with the Bellevue Rotary. "Inspiration Playground" will retain the popularity of the existing playground with an added focus on inclusive, accessible play opportunities where all ages and abilities play and explore at their own pace.
