Early Thursday morning, at 2:10 a.m., two vehicles collided, resulting in serious injuries to one passenger.
Bellevue Police and firefighter-paramedics arrived within five minutes to the collision. An SUV was southbound in the 3100 block of 148th Avenue Northeast when it crashed into a sedan turning left into an apartment complex. The sedan T-boned on the passenger side door. The high-speed impact resulted in all involved being transported to Overlake Medical Center.
A passenger in the sedan, a 55-year-old Bellevue man, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. The 57-year-old driver of the sedan is from Redmond and was evaluated for minor injuries. The 29-year-old driver of the SUV is from Bellevue was evaluated for injuries. Both drivers were arrested for vehicular assault and transported to King County Jail.
The initial collision investigation estimates the speed of the SUV was well over the posted speed of 40 mph.
Vehicular assault generally includes elements of recklessness and/or impairment by drugs or alcohol. Investigators believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision.
The southbound lanes were closed for approximately four hours while accident investigators were on scene. The lanes were reopened at approximately 6:10 a.m.
