Most residents juggle multiple commitments, but those from other countries often have to balance expectations from multiple cultures too. Women in the Bellevue Cultural Conversations program will explore how to keep all the balls in the air from a life coach at the group's April 23 meeting.
Debbie Lacy, a certified life coach, will facilitate a discussion about women's universal desire for balance in light of daily demands placed upon us by our cultures, our families and ourselves. The event will be 1-3 p.m. at the Crossroads Community Center, 16000 NE 10th St.
Lacy will help the group explore and find answers for questions including: Does multiculturism add another layer as we attempt to find balance in our lives? What can we learn from one another's stories and cultural practices as we are pulled in so many directions?
In addition to her Eastside practice, Lacy has led ERIC (Eastside Refugee Immigrant Coalition) for years and works with the EHSF (Eastside Human Services Forum). She understands the richness and the challenges our residents face in a city where more than 40 percent of residents are foreign-born. She is passionate about helping individuals, organizations and communities develop skills to find more balance as they support each other.
Cultural Conversations meets roughly every six weeks, giving women from a variety of backgrounds a way to connect to each other and their community. The gatherings -- where participants share their stories -- are free. Refreshments are served and women of all ages, faiths and cultures are welcome to attend.
