The City of Bellevue is announcing a call for artists to contribute to a celebration of diversity through visual art. This initiative aligns with Bellevue’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, inviting visual artists to capture the essence of the city’s Diversity Advantage Plan, which is currently undergoing a major update.

“The updated Diversity Advantage Plan will help our community to see themselves reflected in the policies and services their government offers. Art can help illuminate that plan by reflecting the unique lived experiences of our community members and building a bridge to understanding,” said Dr. Linda Whitehead, the city’s chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer.

The updated plan will reflect feedback gathered from more than two years of engagement with diverse communities in Bellevue. It will provide guidance for city staff and elected officials on budget, programmatic and service priorities for the city’s diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging work.

The city will provide a $4,000 stipend for the creation of an artwork that embodies the spirit of the Bellevue Diversity Advantage Plan. The selected artist will produce a captivating 2D visual reflecting our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging. The artwork will be featured in the updated plan, on promotional materials and will be on rotating display at City Hall and community centers. Visual artists are asked to describe their connection to the theme of diversity and inclusion in their application. Applications are due Thursday, June 6.
