At the next Cultural Conversations gathering on Tuesday, March 24, the group will explore the challenges and opportunities for women who relocate with their spouses and are unable to work due to government work visa restrictions or lack of personal and professional connections.
The meeting and discussion will take place 1-3 p.m. at Crossroads Community Center, 16000 NE 10th St.
Communities such as Bellevue have become increasingly diverse due to companies hiring international talent to meet the demands of a global society. Many women relocating with their spouses are suddenly faced with the reality of having sacrificed personal fulfillment and purpose, along with family support, career goals, education and work-life experiences. The recognition of this sacrifice is often a cause of loneliness, isolation and depression.
A group of women from different countries will share their stories of loss, the courage it took to reinvent themselves and how connections with others from all over the globe have helped.
Celebrating its fifth year, Cultural Conversations was launched as a partnership between diverse women in the community and the City of Bellevue. It was initiated by women with a desire to get better connected with their community and enhance their understanding of different cultural practices. Gatherings include women from around the world.
The events are free, refreshments are served and women of all ages, faiths and cultures are welcome to attend. To fully participate in the sharing, attendees are encouraged to make arrangements for childcare.
