Cultural Conversations, a women's group that builds cultural understanding and community connections, will gather recipes for the second edition of its cookbook at its annual potluck on Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The ethnic potluck takes place from noon to 2 p.m. at Crossroads Community Center, 16000 NE 10th St. In addition to the enjoyment of sharing food and traditions from around the world, the group will collect recipes for its cookbook, "The World in My Kitchen."
To attend the potluck, please RSVP to ycarlson@bellevuewa.gov. Attendees should bring a homemade dish to share and a recipe. Those unable to attend are encouraged to submit their favorite ethnic recipe, along with a story about its origin, ingredients or family tradition. Send the information to amnickhath@outlook.com.
First published in 2012, "The World in My Kitchen" has been a success and generated a buzz in the community. Nearly 300 of the $10 cookbooks have been sold and $1,500 -- about half of the total proceeds -- has been donated to the Hopelink food bank. The cookbook includes more than 50 recipes from 20 countries. Organizers hope to expand the 2014 edition to reflect Bellevue's increasingly diverse community.
Since its launch in 2010, Cultural Conversations has grown and now has a contact list with more than 250 women. From discussions about culture to story sharing, participants enjoy opportunities to learn, connect and grow within their diverse community.
