On Oct. 27, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the city of Bellevue's Cultural Conversations group will meet at the Crossroads Community Center, at 16000 NE 10th St., to explore how we can create better connections throughout Bellevue's growing and diverse community by first identifying areas of common experience. The meetings offer women of all ages, faiths and cultures an opportunity to tell their unique stories.
At the meeting, participants will discuss how it feels to be on either end of the question "Where are you from?" The answer to this simple question can be complicated if a person has lived in many places, is afraid of assumptions being made about the culture or of being misunderstood. Similarly the individual who wants to be welcoming may not know where to start. There are simply no easy shortcuts to common ground. This topic and related questions will be explored through a short video and an exercise exploring alternative ways to make the connection along with table conversation.
Refreshments will be available and all women are welcome to attend. If applicable, participants are encouraged to make arrangements for child care.
