Tell us what you think about ‘Creative Crosswalks’
The City of Bellevue has installed four artist-designed crosswalks throughout Bellevue. Feedback from community members is wanted about the pilot program.
The Creative Crosswalks are a partnership between the Transportation and Community Development departments to test whether the painted crosswalks improve safety, are easy to maintain and if our community enjoys them.
The artistic installations were paid for by a U.S. Department of Transportation Safe Streets and Roads for All grant and funds from the Community Development Arts and Culture program.
The crosswalk paintings were installed on one side of the intersection at:
- 164th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 24th Street
- 124th Avenue Northeast and Northeast Eighth Street
- 132nd Avenue Northeast and Bel-Red Road
- 106th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 10th Street
Traffic Safety
The Creative Crosswalks pilot program explores the possibility of how art can improve safety around intersections. Do the new bright, energetic crosswalks increase drivers’ attention, do they make people in the crosswalk more visible or are they distracting?
We want to get the opinions of people who have walked, rolled or driven through the intersections with these new artistic treatments. We have a short, 5 min survey open until November 30.
Artists
The City of Bellevue opened a call for entries to artists for the Creative Crosswalks project. Each artist could use up to six colors in their designs. Two Puget Sound artists, Nikita Ares and Kenji Stoll, were chosen amongst many entrees to create two designs each.
