Thanks to the efforts of Bellevue's "Next Generation Bellevue" program, entrepreneurs in the city have launched 66 new businesses at Impact Hub Bellevue alone in 2015, leading to 89 new jobs. The good news was part of the city Economic Development team's quarterly report to council members Monday.
The Office of Economic Development continues to pursue a variety of strategies for retaining and expanding businesses in Bellevue, as well as attracting new companies to the city. Other notable accomplishments for 2015 include:
- Five companies have either located or expanded to Bellevue, creating approximately 71 jobs and over $40 million in investment; and
- Four local business decided to either expand or retain their presence in the city, creating or preserving over 148 jobs.
The council adopted Bellevue's economic development plan in July of 2014.
Mid-biennium review
The council received the first in a series of briefings on the upcoming mid-biennium budget review. The state-mandated review process will focus on making adjustments to the two-year $1.46 billion budget adopted by the city in 2014.
Staff is slated to brief the council again on Nov. 16 with additional information on the city's operating and "other" funds and follow-up on Capital Investment Program questions. A public hearing on the changes will be on Nov. 23, with a vote expected on Dec. 7.
