Two busy streets in Bellevue will be closed, one for an extended period of time, beginning this week. Detours will be in place and travelers are urged to exercise caution.
120th Avenue Northeast extended closure: A short section of 120th Avenue, from Northeast 12th Street to a point about 200 feet south, will be closed to traffic in both directions from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays, beginning Wednesday, June 17, through Thursday, June 25. After that, additional closures will be needed over the next several weeks during daytime or nighttime hours to complete the work.
The extended closure is needed so crews can relocate utility pipes, electrical lines and communications conduit buried beneath the street. The construction work is part of the 120th Avenue Northeast, Stage 2 project to widen and realign the existing roadway. A detour route will be in place and access to nearby business will be maintained via Northeast Eighth Street. Questions and comments may be directed to Robert Bellefeuille, project inspector, at 425-452-4374 or rbellefeui@bellevuewa.gov.
Lakemont Boulevard: Lakemont will be closed in both directions, from Forest Drive to Newcastle Golf Course Road, beginning at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 20, through 6 a.m., Monday, June 22. During the closure, traffic will be detoured to Forest Drive and Coal Creek Parkway.
The closure is needed so crews can make repairs at two slide areas just south of Forest Drive, prior to resurfacing the road with new asphalt, part of the citys Pavement Overlay Program. Resurfacing work has already started on other sections of Lakemont Blvd., with weekday, single-lane closures affecting commuter traffic in both directions from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through mid-July. The project also will include new bike lanes between 164th Avenue SE and Forest Drive.
Questions and comments may be directed to Teresa Becker, construction inspector, 425-452-7942 or tbecker@bellevuewa.gov. The purpose of the Overlay Program is to preserve city streets and avoid complete rebuilds, which cost significantly more than resurfacing.
