The city has won four national awards from the Public Technology Institute for a variety of innovative applications that make life easier for staff and residents. Last year the Information Technology Department collaborated with other departments to develop:
- an interactive map of construction projects;
- a mobile app that allows police officers to quickly enter and send data about people they contact in the field;
- a mobile app that tells users if they're doing work in the public right of way; and
- software that allows Development Services field staff to complete inspections and other services quickly via city-issued smart phones or tablets.
The first three items were all 2015 Technology Solutions award winners; the last one was recognized as a significant achievement.
"These are great examples of using technology to support city business strategies," Chief Information Officer Toni Cramer said. Enabling a more mobile workforce is a priority in Bellevue's Technology Strategic plan and we are thrilled to see these projects recognized.
The City of Bellevue focuses on innovation in its guiding principles, and last year the City Council adopted a 20-year vision that includes "Identify and implement technologies that improve customer service." as a priority.
