Do you want to have fun, give back to the community and learn invaluable communication and conflict resolution skills all at the same time? Bellevue's Neighborhood Mediation Program is now offering a free, 20-hour telephone conciliation training class. Applicants should have a positive attitude, good communication skills and the desire to help people resolve problems. The deadline to apply is Oct. 23.
Trainings are scheduled to be at City Hall on:
- Wednesday, Nov. 4, 5 to 9 p.m.
- Friday, Nov. 6, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday, Nov. 7, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Participants must attend all three sessions.
Telephone conciliation training is a required first step on the path to becoming a volunteer mediator with the city's mediation team. Although there is no charge for the training, participants are expected to volunteer in the mediation office each week in three-hour shifts during business hours for a minimum of six months. Eligible candidates for the training must reside, work or go to school in Bellevue.
This training includes conflict theory, communication skills building and conflict styles in order to help callers resolve conflicts within the Bellevue community.
Applications may be found online at Mediation Training. For more information, email mediation_info@bellevuewa.gov or call 425-452-4091.
