Bomb cyclone storm impacts

A bomb cyclone windstorm lashed Bellevue the night of Tuesday, Nov. 19, bringing down trees throughout the city and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. Most city facilities have power and many are available to warm up and charge devices during business hours. The mayor proclaimed a civil emergency in the city due to the storm's extensive damage. Yard Debris Collection after Wind Storm

Now through Friday, Dec. 6, Republic Services will collect up to 192 gallons (six 32-gallon units) of extra yard debris in bins, bags and bundles during your regular collection day at no additional cost. King County residents can drop off tree limbs, and other woody debris without paying the standard yard waste fee at the Bow Lake, Cedar Falls, Enumclaw, Factoria, Shoreline, and Vashon facilities. The Northwest Asian Weekly recognized City Manager Brad Miyake and eight other leaders at a Diversity at the Top Honoring Asian Americans who have broken the glass ceiling event. The newspaper also published a story about Miyake -- "Diversity at the top Brad Miyake steers City of Bellevue" -- leading up to a dinner on Saturday.

The City Council appointed Miyake city manager in April, after he served in the role in an interim capacity for a year.

At a separate event the same evening, the University of Washington Nikkei Alumni Association presented Miyake its 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award. A story in the organization's newsletter notes that "Brad is not only a very diligent, hard worker, but is a very compassionate, thoughtful person."
