It's one of only 28 jurisdictions in the nation recognized by the International City/County Management Association with a Certificate of Excellence, the group's top honor. The ICMA awards certificates at three different levels -- achievement, distinction and excellence.
The certificate program assesses a local government's performance management work and encourages analysis of the results by comparing them with peers and gauging performance over time. The program also encourages accountability and transparency.
"I'm proud of our efforts to use data from citizen surveys and other measurements to increase the effectiveness of the organization," said Acting City Manager Brad Miyake. "Recognition from the ICMA is great news for Bellevue taxpayers."
The city earned the Certificate of Excellence by:
- surveying both residents and local government employees;
- timely reporting of performance data to the public through a variety of communications methods;
- using data in decision-making;
- sharing performance measurement knowledge with other local governments; and
- staff training.
