Solo commuters invited to try new commute for one week for free
This August is a great opportunity to try switching from driving alone to commuting by bus, carpool, vanpool, bicycle or walking. Choose Your Way Bellevue, a city resource for travel options, is recruiting drive-alone commuters willing to try a new commute other than driving alone for one week and document their experiences.
Participants will be eligible for weekly drawings and a chance to win the grand prize. The program will cover participants' new transportation costs for the trial week.
"Sometimes it's hard to take the first step when it comes to saving money or taking the bus more," says Crystal Mason, last year's Commute Challenge grand prize winner. "I think the Commute Challenge helps with that first step. It gives you something to look forward to and keeps you accountable. I had a really good time."
Applications for the 2014 Choose Your Way Bellevue Commute Challenge will be accepted from August 1 to October 1. Approved challengers who document their stories on the Choose Your Way Bellevue blog will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win an iPad Mini, Microsoft Office Store gift card or Amazon Kindle Fire. A winner will be drawn on Monday, Nov. 10.
In addition to the challenge, current non-drive-alone commuters and commute challengers can participate in a biweekly social media contest by submitting stories of their own on the Choose Your Way Bellevue Facebook page for a chance to win one of five $25 REI gift cards.
Choose Your Way Bellevue is hosting the Commute Challenge for the second year and accepting more challengers to participate in one-week challenges. Choose Your Way offers details about the Commute Challenge, including how to enter.
The Commute Challenge is a collaborative effort between Choose Your Way Bellevue, King County Metro and TransManage, a service of the Bellevue Downtown Association.
