The City of Bellevue reopened the swimming area at Chism Beach Park, Tuesday, July 29, following the clearing of a blockage in a city sewer line in Lake Washington.
Water quality test results from samples taken Monday indicate that the sewer overflow did not impact the swimming and access areas of Chism Beach Park, and the water is safe for swimming.
Due to a sewage overflow on Monday, the city closed the swimming area at this park as a precaution to protect public safety. Utilities crews discovered a blockage in a sewer lake line Tuesday, which had caused the overflow. The city notified Seattle-King County Public Health Department, which recommended closing Chism Beach, at 9600 SE 11th St., as a safety precaution.
