A fire in a Lake Hills area home early Monday morning claimed the life of a three-year-old child in the duplex.
At approximately 1:22 a.m., on Monday April 7, Bellevue Fire received calls of a residential structure fire on the 14100 block of Southeast Eighth Street.
Crews arrived to heavy flame from the front and rear of home. Crews were met on the street by the mother of a three-year-old boy who was reported to still be in the home. Fire crews made access to the second floor under extremely heavy fire conditions.
Firefighters found the child near the door of a bedroom and transferred the child to Medic One. Both the boy and the mother were taken to Harborview Medical Center where the child died from suspected injuries of the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Bellevue Fire Department and Bellevue Police detectives.
Fire companies from Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Eastside Fire and Rescue and Mercer Island assisted in suppression operations. Bellevue Police detectives were called to the scene to assist the fire investigators to determine the cause of the fire.
The fire was brought under control approximately 50 minutes after the first engine company arrived on scene.
Fire investigators and Bellevue Police detectives will be working towards identifying a cause of the fire and establishing an estimate of loss. No firefighters were injured in the fire.
