Bellevue firefighters confined a house fire to the garage Thursday after a car crashed into the house and severed a gas line. No residents or firefighters were injured.
At 12:02 p.m. on Thursday, dispatch received a call that a car had crashed into a house on the 14800 block of Southeast Ninth Place in the Eastgate neighborhood, and that flames were visible.
Five minutes later firefighters arrived on the scene, finding the car's driver and a passenger standing outside the car, uninjured. No one was in the house.
Firefighters rapidly deployed hose lines, ventilated the structure and confined the fire to the garage, salvaging a vast majority of the home. Firefighters stayed on scene, cooling the structure, while the natural gas safely burnt off and vented into the air. Puget Sound Energy shut off the gas line at 1:12.
