The Neighborhood Enhancement Program, which offers residents a way to select city-funded capital improvements for their neighborhoods, comes to downtown and BelRed this year, with $491,000 allocated for the two fast-growing residential areas.
A kickoff is set for Tuesday, Jan. 29, 6:30-8 p.m., at City Hall, 450 110th Ave. NE, in room 1E-108. City staff will provide a brief overview of the program guidelines and schedule, answer questions and invite residents to share, discuss and submit project ideas.
Following the kickoff, each household in BelRed and downtown will receive a prepaid NEP project request form in the mail. Residents in both areas are encouraged to use the form for as many NEP projects as they like by March 12. An online form will also be available after the kickoff.
NEP is a $5 million, city-funded, capital improvements program that allows residents to propose and select projects that improve their neighborhood’s quality of life and enhance its character. The program rotates through Bellevue’s 14 NEP neighborhood areas, serving two areas each year. After the process begins for the downtown-BelRed neighborhood area, NEP will launch in Lake Hills in April.
Since 2015, the program has rotated through the Eastgate/Factoria, Cougar Mountain/Lakemont, West Lake Sammamish, Northeast Bellevue, Bridle Trails and Northwest Bellevue neighborhood areas. NEP projects included park lighting, sidewalks, landscaping and crosswalks with flashing lights.
This is the first time the NEP is being used in the downtown and BelRed areas, with the relatively recent emergence of both as residential neighborhoods.
