    Published June 6 2022

The City of Bellevue is extending the deadline for applications for federal community development block grants for non-construction capital projects from Wednesday, June 1, to Monday, June 20, by 4 p.m. Local nonprofits can can apply or request applications from dadair@bellevuewa.gov.

This news release has been translated into 简体中文 (Chinese Simplified); 繁體中文 (Chinese Traditional); 한국어 (Korean); ਪੰਜਾਬੀ (Punjabi); Русский (Russian); español (Spanish); and Tiếng Việt (Vietnamese).

    Eligible projects include:

    • architectural and engineering and other soft costs
    • single-family home rehabilitation
    • weatherization or acquisition costs
    • economic development such as microenterprise business assistance

The city is not seeking public services projects (homeless services, counseling, food banks, senior services). Projects must comply with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development block grant regulations.

The Bellevue Human Services Commission will review applications in early summer and present funding recommendations to the City Council in the fall.

The amount of funding available for the request for proposals is estimated to be almost $1.3 million. The city makes no guarantees regarding the availability or awarding of block grants.

    Significant compliance and reporting requirements

Block grants come with significant compliance and reporting requirements. Responsive performance reporting, specific demographic data records and meticulous documentation requirements can extend for years beyond the completion of a block grant-funded activity.

Prior to applying, organizations need to understand the administrative requirements that come with block grants. “Playing by the Rules: A Handbook for CDBG Subrecipients on Administrative Systems” is a good resource.

To request a translated copy of the funding application, contact Donna Adair (425-452-4069 or dadair@bellevuewa.gov).
