A police standoff ended peacefully yesterday after eight hours. The suspect was taken into custody and no one was injured.
On Thursday, at 1:56 a.m., Bellevue Police were dispatched after a man phoned 9-1-1 stating his neighbor had just threatened him by pointing a gun to his head. The incident occurred in an apartment in the 1800 block of 108th Ave. S.E.
The 30-year-old Bellevue resident said he went over to his neighbors apartment to play chess. The 52-year-old became upset and pointed a gun to the victims head. The victim said he ran out of the apartment and called police.
Police responded immediately and a perimeter was set up. Other neighbors were contacted by police and evacuated. Information provided by the reporting party confirmed the subject still had a firearm in his apartment and possibly other weapons. He also stated there was no one else in the apartment.
The subject, known to Bellevue Police, remained in his apartment refusing to cooperate. Patrol officers held a perimeter around the home while the SWAT team attempted to make contact with the barricaded subject. After several hours, negotiators were able to convince the subject to comply with police. SWAT members entered the apartment and took the subject into custody.
Bellevue Way, 112th Ave S.E. and 108th Ave S.E. were all closed to traffic during this incident and rerouted for safety. The streets were re-opened to traffic at approximately 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
