    Published April 20 2016

Three Bellevue businesses and an elementary school are being awarded free garbage service for the month of April for their outstanding recycling efforts. The top business recyclers in their class for 2015 are Jamieson Furniture Gallery, North Coast Moving & Storage, and Pro Sports Club. The top school is Stevenson Elementary.

In the small business category, Jamieson Furniture Gallery is recycling 91 percent of their waste. Jamieson Furniture Gallery bills itself as a "greencentric" company; all their furniture is made from recycled or repurposed wood. The company has been in Bellevue for three and a half years.

North Coast Moving & Storage won in the medium size category, with a 93 percent recycling rate. They have been doing business in Bellevue since 1947. They value the importance of recycling to save trees and other natural resources.

Pro Sports Club won in the large business category with a recycling rate of 75 percent. Pro Sports Club is a health club that has been in Bellevue more than 40 years. They emphasize the value of recycling to their members and staff as an important way to provide a healthy environment for all.

In the school category, Stevenson Elementary School recycled 67 percent of their waste. For many years, the Bellevue School District's Green Genius program has worked with schools to promote green practices and activities. Stevenson Elementary narrowly topped six other schools that all tied for second place.

The commercial recycling program is available at no additional charge to Republic Services commercial garbage customers. The program allows unlimited recycling, and all accepted materials can be combined in the same recycling container. As a result, cardboard, mixed paper, newspaper, aluminum cans, plastic containers, plastic film and all colors of glass containers can be combined for recycling.

Republic Services and the City of Bellevue began the Commercial Recycling Awards as a way to recognize businesses that go above and beyond in their recycling efforts and to promote the commercial recycling program. If businesses would like to learn more about recycling, they should contact Republic Services at 425-646-2492 or Bellevue Utilities at 425-452-6932.
