Congratulations to Lourdes Salazar, volunteer coordinator for the city's Probation Services. She will be honored as one of NW Asian Weekly's 2014 "Amazing Women Mentors" at the Women of Color Empowered 2014 Luncheon, Friday, September 19, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., at China Harbor Restaurant in Seattle.
Salazar is a community volunteer serving many organizations. She is current president of Eastside Latino Leadership Forum, and was also just appointed by the King County Council to the Office of Law Enforcement Oversight, Citizens Committee. Her past volunteer activities are extensive and include co-founding Mujeres NW, a Latinas support organization; serving as a Washington State commissioner and chair on the Hispanic Affairs Committee; Leadership Eastside board member and member of the Seattle Police Latino Advisory Committee.
She is one of 16 mentors to be recognized at the luncheon. Created by the Northwest Asian Weekly, Women of Color Empowered is a non-political group that aims to inspire women to learn from one another and teach them how to give back to their communities. Their programs celebrate the achievements of women in both non-traditional and traditional jobs.
