The City of Bellevue is seeking candidates for a vacancy on the Bellevue Convention Center Authority. Interested residents can apply online. Applications are due by Friday, Feb. 10.
The City Council established the BCCA in 1989 to provide for the development, promotion and operation of a convention center to provide economic stimulation to the community through the creation of jobs, tax revenues and commercial activity. The BCCA is responsible for the oversight of the Meydenbauer Center, Meydenbauer Center Theatre and Visit Bellevue.
Meydenbauer Center has been an event venue since 1993, with 54,000 square feet of meeting space. Meydenbauer Center offers a full complement of amenities for conventions and conferences, meetings and banquets – including state-of-the-art technology and in-house catering options. Building community is at the foundation of the services provided by Meydenbauer Center and supported by the staff.
The BCCA is governed by a Board of Directors whose members are appointed by the Bellevue city manager with the concurrence of the City Council. Although the BCCA is legally separate from the city government, it qualifies as a “component unit” of the city because its revenue bonds are secured by and financed with city revenues and because the board serves at the pleasure of the city manager and council.
The BCCA Board meets once a month, typically the fourth Tuesday of each month, 8:30-10 a.m. Board members serve four-year terms, and are expected to serve on one of three committees, Marketing, Finance and Facilities. The time spent serving on the board is approximately 8 to 12 hours per month. All new board members are provided with onboarding training that includes the history of the BCCA, understanding of its financial structure and how to read and interpret monthly financial statements, review of the three operating divisions’ structure and their key performance indicators, and compliance training regarding the Open Public Meetings Act.
Applicants must be residents of Bellevue. The City of Bellevue values diversity and encourages anyone interested to apply.
