The city is now accepting applications for its annual Tree Giveaway, which distributes approximately 700 free trees each year to Bellevue residents and community organizations. Applications will be available at Tree Giveaway through Monday, Aug. 17, or until all trees have been claimed.
Trees will be distributed on Saturday, Oct. 24, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Bannerwood Sports Park. Recipients will receive instructions on how to plant their trees and can also order free watering bags and mulch.
Since 2021, the city has partnered with 300 Trees and Amazon to provide tree care and maintenance education to more than 3,900 recipients of free trees. Residents who apply will be able to immediately select up to two trees, while community organizations, schools, and multifamily properties will be eligible to receive up to 20 trees. Tree selection will be first-come, first-served, so we recommend applying early for the widest variety of tree availability.
Tree canopy provides a host of environmental and health benefits. A healthy urban tree canopy helps mitigate flooding, improve air and water quality and cool neighborhood temperatures during warm summer months.
Those interested in receiving free trees can visit Tree Giveaway to learn more about this year’s available species and find tips on how to best select a tree that will thrive on your property. Multifamily properties, schools and community organizations are encouraged to reach out to trees@bellevuewa.gov for individualized advice.
