The City of Bellevue is committed to serving all residents, including the many immigrants and refugees who make their home here. If you have concerns about your immigration status or the possibility of deportation for you or family members, several local organizations may be able to help you.
At the Jan. 27, 2026 City Council meeting, Mayor Mo Malakoutian said in part, “Federal immigration enforcement actions are outside the control of local cities. The City of Bellevue does not participate in those activities, and our local police officers do not have a role in federal civil immigration enforcement. What is our responsibility is to uphold our community’s values of integrity, respect and care in the work we do locally. Bellevue remains committed to being a welcoming and safe city — one that serves and supports all who call this community home, including the many immigrants and refugees who contribute so much to our city.”

Message from Bellevue Police Chief
If you are the victim or witness in a crime, Bellevue Police will not ask you what your immigration status is. Below is a video outlining how the Bellevue Police Department operates in relation to federal immigration policies. They have also shared information in multiple languages on the Police FAQs page.
Hate Crimes
If you experience a hate crime in which you feel your safety is threatened, call 911 for help from the Bellevue Police. As noted above, officers will not ask about your immigration status. If you believe you are the victim of a bias-related event, you can file an online report (bias-related event is the first option).
