Event information
The City of Bellevue is pleased to announce a special evening discussing how threat assessment teams work within communities and schools to prevent violence. We invite you to join us as Kristina Anderson Froling, Mark Follman and Detective Will Halifax from the Bellevue Police Department, share their perspectives on creating a safer community. Sign language interpretation will be provided.
Featured Speakers:
Ms. Kristina Anderson Froling, Executive Director of the Seattle-based Koshka Foundation, will present her experiences and insights as a survivor of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting. Kristina will highlight her involvement and unique leadership role in school safety in a compassionate and heartfelt manner.
Mr. Mark Follman, author of the book “Trigger Points: Inside the Mission to Stop Mass Shootings in America,” will share insights from his eight years of research into the history, successes, and challenges of threat assessment. Follman will speak about issues of public awareness, how trained community teams work together to mitigate targeted violence, and more.
Detective Will Hallifax serves on the City of Bellevue's multidisciplinary Threat Management Team, the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force and trains on Workplace Violence Prevention. As a Certified Threat Manager through the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, Detective Hallifax will address the drawbacks of a solely response-focused approach to threats. He will delve into how the Bellevue Police Department has adopted the principles of threat management and prevention within a comprehensive safety plan. He will also present a vision for public-private engagement to proactively combat threats within our community.
Please be informed that video or audio recording of the event is strictly prohibited.
