One of the biggest challenges of owning horses in the Northwest is muddy pastures in winter. Mud can cause hoof problems in horses, and muddy runoff can pollute local streams. A free workshop on September 25 will teach horse owners how to beat the mud and become chore-efficient at a time of year when it counts the most.
Alayne Blickle of Horses for Clean Water will guide attendees through a checklist of what to do to now to keep horses and the environment healthier this winter. The workshop will be Thursday, September 25, 6:30-9 p.m. at the Bellevue Golf Course, 5500 140th Ave. NE.
This program is funded by a grant from King Conservation District in partnership with the cities of Bellevue and Kirkland, and Horses for Clean Water. The Lake Washington Saddle Club estimates there are approximately 300 horse properties in the Bridle Trails area.
