Compass Plaza location will have trucks Monday to Thursday
Building on the success of the City Hall Plaza food truck program that launched last year, the City of Bellevue is adding a second downtown location at Compass Plaza (106th Avenue Northeast).
The second site, part of the city’s new Grand Connection Street Eats program, launches Monday, April 14. Food trucks will operate there 11 a.m.- 2 p.m., Monday to Thursday each week.
“We saw great community participation throughout last year’s City Hall program, which served 3,600 customers and generated $60,000 in net sales for locally owned trucks,” said Jesse Canedo, chief economic development officer. “Expanding this amenity to include a new area along the Grand Connection is just one of several ways we’re bringing more activities for people to enjoy in the state’s second largest downtown.”
The Grand Connection Street Eats program, in partnership with the Washington State Food Truck Association, brings a variety of food trucks to downtown, offering different cuisines and helping to create a more engaging experience for community members, visitors and employees alike.
As more people return to in-person work, the city’s economic development team has received requests for additional food and beverage options in downtown Bellevue. The Compass Plaza site complements the City Hall location, which will continue to operate Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. on 110th Avenue Northeast. The city and its partners will explore additional locations across downtown over the coming months.
“We are excited to see more and more cities using small mobile food establishments in their economic development plans as food trucks are so very popular with the public, inspire new entrepreneurship and are an excellent use of public space,” said Lori Johnson, president of the Washington State Food Truck Association.
The Street Eats program is just one example of the city’s ongoing commitment to increasing public space programming and creating dynamic, engaging places for the community to gather. As part of the Grand Connection initiative, Bellevue is working to enhance public spaces with more programming along the route from Meydenbauer Bay Park through downtown and across Interstate 405 to Eastrail.
